About End of Life Choices Oregon
End of Life Choices Oregon (EOLCOR) is a non-profit organization that assists Oregonians regarding their end of life options. These include Death with Dignity (DWD), Voluntarily Stopping Eating (VSED), and palliative hospice care.
The Choice is Yours
We provide information about all options. A person’s call to EOLCOR is answered by an intake specialist. The caller is asked questions, and his / her needs are assessed. A caregiver or family member may make this initial call on behalf of a terminally ill person. If more assistance is needed, the client’s information is entered into a confidential database. A client packet is available to those who wish to receive it, and a volunteer can be assigned.
The volunteer assists the client according to their preferences. Contact between the client, the client’s family and/or caregivers is usually done in person.
The Client-Volunteer Relationship
The volunteer works with clients and their families/caregivers to help them with the details of available options. Once the person is informed of their choices, they can make an autonomous decision regarding what they would like to do; or they may decide to do nothing.
EOLCOR does NOT give medical or legal advice; all information relates to end of life choices. If a person chooses to use DWD, volunteers can assist them through the required steps and guide them through the process.
“It’s overwhelmingly complicated for a patient to navigate the details of the DWD law. It’s almost prohibitive without somebody like you [EOLCOR]. I’ve wanted to do this since my diagnosis almost a year and half ago. I couldn’t even think of having to collect all the details that are required. Now I can do that with your help. Thank you.”
